In June of this year, the Bethlehem Police Department received a grant from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to reduce underage and dangerous drinking. The grant runs for two years, with awards of $20,000 each year. The grant funds are used to conduct Concentrated Patrols which provide alcohol education and enforcement.
Through the end of September, a total of 55 officers worked 13 separate Concentrated Patrols, which typically ran from 11 pm to 3 am on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday nights. The grant-funded officers made contact with an estimated 6,000 people, distributed approximately 550 educational fliers, addressed 81 loud parties, and made 27 arrests.
The Concentrated Patrols will continue.
