BETHLEHEM, PENNSYLVANIA

On Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at approximately 12:15 pm, Bethlehem Police and Lehigh University Police responded to a burglary that just occurred at 547 Hillside Ave., Bethlehem, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. A female Lehigh student returned home and found a male inside her residence burglarizing it. The male, described as a thin white male with glasses and wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, immediately fled the residence on foot.

Bethlehem and Lehigh Police units conducted a search of the surrounding area. At approximately 12:40 pm, Officer William Audello spotted two males. One male fit the description of the male observed by the Lehigh student inside her residence. The two males were stopped by Police units. The two males had in their possession a flat screen television and the remote.  One of the two males, later identified as CHRISTOPHER KRATZER, age 30, was positively identified by the female Lehigh student as the male she found in her residence. KRATZER was also in possession of syringes and heroin. Jewelry recovered from KRATZER was found to have been stolen from 547 Hillside Ave.  The other male was identified as JONATHAN GARCIA, age 24. Both males were placed under arrest and taken into BPD HQ.

Thru investigation, it was established that both males were involved in the burglary at 547 Hillside Ave. Police surveillance cameras, that were funded and installed by Lehigh University as part of a joint partnership program between Lehigh University and the City of Bethlehem, assisted in the investigation by capturing images of both suspects at the scene of the burglary. Additional database searches are being conducted by Lehigh Police and the City’s 911 Center to establish if these two males were involved in any other crimes in this area of the City.

As a direct result of this joint cooperation, additional burglaries in this area were linked to these two males. The flat screen television and remote was found to have been stolen from another residence at 526 Thomas Street in Bethlehem. Detectives were able to physically connect KRATZER to two more burglaries in this area; 410 First Terrace that occurred on November 7, 2014 and 416 First Terrace that occurred on October 16, 2014.
