Bethlehem Police announce arrest of female for two armed robberies

Bethlehem, PA

The Bethlehem Police Department investigated two similar in description Armed Robberies over the weekend, both in the 2900 block of Linden Street, Northampton county.

On 9-15-12 a female entered the Quick Fill gas station at 2960 Linden Street in the early morning hours, covering her face with her shirt and displaying the handle of a handgun to the cashier.  The Suspect demanded money, Lottery Tickets and cigarettes from the cashier, who complied with the demands.

On 9-16-12 a female entered the 7-11 at 2930 Linden Street again in the early morning hours, covering her face with a garment and again displayed a handgun to the cashier.  The Suspect demanded cash, cigarettes, and Lottery Tickets.

Bethlehem Police units searched the City for the vehicle and suspect. Detectives Miller and Martinez located a vehicle fitting the description given by a witness that observed a vehicle leaving the area immediately following the Quick-Fill gas station robbery.  The 4-door silver Kia Sephia was currently parked in front of 3120 East Blvd.

Through the course of the investigation the girlfriend of the vehicle owner was identified as Joanna Scandlen, who was currently incarcerated in Lehigh County Prison on unrelated charges.  Evidence from the robbery at the 7-11 was observed in the vehicle and recovered.

Joanna Scandlen was interviewed by Detectives Miller and Martinez at Lehigh County Prison in regards to the two robberies.

The investigation into these street robberies is actively ongoing by Detectives.

Joanna R. Scandlen, 3120 East Blvd. Apt B, Bethlehem, Pa. 18017, will be charged with: (2) counts of Robbery, (2) counts of Theft, (2) counts of Receiving Stolen Property and (2) counts of Simple Assault.

Joanna Scandlen will be arraigned later today before Judge James Narlesky and committed to Northampton County Prison pending Northampton County Court action following the disposition of the unrelated charges in Lehigh County. Bail was set by Northampton County in the amount of $150,000.00.
