On August 12, 2012, at approx. 1:45 a.m., two young men were at the Pantry One store on East Morton St. and met another young man while there. The young man they met offered to sell them a flat screen TV and marijuana for $50.00. They agreed to meet later in the 600 block of E. 5th St. to complete the transaction.
The two victims walked to the location at around 2:30 a.m. and met the young man there. They were then surrounded by other males. A handgun was displayed by one in the group as they demanded money from the two victims. One of the victims sustained an injury from being tackled by one of the suspects.
The next day at approximately 4:15 p.m., Bethlehem Police Detectives arrested a 17 year old male in connection with this crime.
On Tuesday, August 14, Bethlehem Police Detectives arrested a second 17 year old male in connection with this robbery.
After consultation with the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office, it was decided that both of these robbers will be charged as adults. Both are charged with counts of Robbery and Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. The first one arrested, Shaqur WATTS was arraigned Monday before Magisterial District Judge Capobianco. Bail was set at $75,000.00 and he was committed to Northampton County Prison pending Court action. The second male, Muhaafiz Ibn SALAAM was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Matos-Gonzalez. His bail was set at $150,000. He was committed to Northampton County Prison as well.
